Sawmill Lane Art Walk

A new initiative from the Town of Dedham’s Conservation Commission

Call for Art: The Town of Dedham's Conservation Commission, in partnership with Mother Brook Arts & Community Center, is seeking artwork images for a new, temporary installation on the Sawmill Lane Bridge. The final installation will feature 2' x 2' vinyl stickers of artworks created by artists with a connection to Dedham.

Submitted artworks should respond to themes of nature; the environment; plants, bugs, insects, animals; or the Dedham natural landscape.

This call is open to artists of all ages! There is no fee to participate.

Applicants may enter up to three (3) artworks.

The application deadline is May 7, 2026 at 5pm.

About this Project

This project is generously funded by a Community Biodiversity Grant by the Department of Fish and Wildlife. The Town of Dedham seeks artwork from local artists that showcase biodiversity - the natural world around us, the creatures that inhabit it, and the ways in which we interact with our landscapes. In 2025, the state released an ambitious Biodiversity plan, including four main goals - Protect, Restore, Sustain, and Connect. Art has the power to speak volumes about a subject and connect us in our interpretations and conversations around the art piece.

As part of this project, the Town of Dedham will print 40 weatherproof vinyl stickers of artwork, each 2’ x 2’, that will be spaced out in an “art walk” on Sawmill Bridge. This art walk will be the gateway to the Sawmill Lane Park and Pollinator Pathway, which is also being funded by the Community Biodiversity Grant. The art installation will be exhibited through 2026. Selected artists will receive a $125 gift card to Mother Brook Arts & Community Center.

Application Guidelines

Artwork image requirements: Submitted images must be high resolution (a minimum of 300 dpi) files, formatted as .jpg or .png, with a maximum file size of 5MB.

Final Installation: The printed decals will be installed on Sawmill Bridge in late Spring/early Summer 2026 (exact dates TBA) and will remain installed for approximately 6 months.
