Why Giving Matters at Mother Brook
This season, we’re celebrating the heart of Mother Brook: our creative community.
As we look ahead to Giving Tuesday, we’re reflecting on what makes Mother Brook Arts & Community Center such a vital part of the creative landscape in Dedham. It isn’t just the studios, the classes, or the exhibitions—it’s the people.
Our community of artists, students, and neighbors brings this place to life every day. Their stories remind us why supporting Mother Brook matters, and why creativity is such a powerful connector.
Below, hear directly from some of the artists who make Mother Brook what it is.
“Creating and experiencing art to me is breath.”
—Richard Trabucco, Resident Artist, 3 years
“Creating and experiencing art to me is breath. It's an intergal part of my life. The community is really everything to me. Although I am grateful to have a space to create, the connections made with other members have meant the most. I have met truly awesome human beings here, People I see as friends, family, mentors. What does Motherbrook mean to me? It's community and sanctuary.”
Richard’s words speak to the heart of our mission—Mother Brook is more than a studio. It’s a home for creative connection.
“Tiny studio, giant rewards!”
—Elissa Dunlap, Resident Artist, 7 years
“Tiny studio, giant rewards! Being part of Mother Brook’s supportive artist community and leadership has helped my work grow and evolve in so many ways. I’m very grateful to be part of this community.”
Elissa reminds us that meaningful growth happens in shared spaces, surrounded by encouragement and support.
“Motherbrook is a jewel of the Dedham community.”
—Jen Hyde, Community Studio Artist, 18 months
“Motherbrook is a jewel of the Dedham community. Creating art and unplugging from the stress and noise of the world is a gift. The artists I meet and learn from are generous and engaging. I have loved every class I have taken and now that I am a CSA I have an opportunity to develop as an artist myself. As a longtime Dedham resident, I couldn't be prouder of what is happening here. It's a joy to be a part of it all.”
Jen’s journey reflects how Mother Brook welcomes artists at every stage—providing access, inspiration, and space to grow.
“I found a group of artists that are welcoming, non-judgemental and supportive.”
—Lisa Greenfield, Resident Artist
“At Motherbrook I found a group of artists that are welcoming, non-judgemental and supportive. It has pushed my work out of my comfort zone. But most importantly it has been a place of community and belonging where we share ideas and push each other, but also support each other in our art, our commitment to our work, and our sense of community. I am very grateful to have MBACC.”
Lisa’s reflection captures the essence of what we strive to nurture: a place where artists feel seen, supported, and inspired.
