I am deeply influenced by the physical world—fascinated by how we shape our surroundings, and how those surroundings, in turn, shape us. Much of my work examines context, with a particular interest in how things, including humans, come to be through our environments. Landscapes and the human body are recurring themes in my work.

I tell stories through painting and ceramics. I hand-build and carve clay forms, then layer glazes and textures onto their surfaces, balancing the control of the brush with the serendipity of clay and firings. These contrasting processes push me to consider my work in multiple stages, and to listen and respond slowly to the demands of the materials.
