FINCH Ceramics
Jessica Finch creates contemporary ceramic vessels, influenced by studies in sculpture and architecture. Her work is wheel-thrown and often made in multiple parts with burnished porcelain and oxides rather than traditional glazes. "I make objects to be touched and lived with. I want to influence the spaces people experience on a daily basis. The intimacy of objects is a critical component of my work. Rather than an artwork that can exist in a white box, these are social creatures that are meant to contain the mundane and sacred things we surround ourselves with."
The original Finch Ceramics was owned by Jessica's parents, Betty and Hardy, in Meriden CT. Jessica came to Boston to study ceramics and sculpture at MassArt (BFA '00). She continued with architectural studies at Boston Architectural College and a graduate degree in Arts Administration at Boston University. Jessica lives in Jamaica Plain and participates in open studios twice a year as a Resident Ceramic Artist at Mother Brook Art and Community Center. Her work can also be found at Elleyo in Jamaica Plain, Flourish & Foundry in downtown Boston, Bad Habit Art & Design in Provincetown, the annual MassArt Auction and online @finch_ceramics and finchceramics.com.
